I'm getting tired of the algorithm

Recently, the internet has become very frustrating for me. I usually don't mind the algorithm. When they started moving the internet to being algorithm-based at the beginning, I actually liked it. I got to see more of the things that I'm interested in, and I got to enjoy my time on the internet. All good and dandy.

Recently, they started changing how they decide what to show you. A lot of Facebook and Instagram are not just showing you the things you like, but they are now showing you things that you might be interested in engaging with, things that may anger you, things that can get you really excited, or really riled up. It's exhausting, and even when the algorithm works and tailors things for you, it's just targeted advertising. Sponsored posts, influencers, and I get it. It sounds hypocritical, but I understand that the landscape has changed and that it's how advertising works now.

But don't you just miss it when there were specific corners of the internet where you could just be you? When everything was more intimate, more personal, more... human. I distinctly remember going on Facebook, seeing what my friends were up to, sending likes to their photos, seeing what people were actually thinking, seeing people share their favorite drink or what they did that weekend, what their reactions to the newest episode of Naruto were. Checking out groups and what people were talking about. Reading forums and blog posts. Doing all these things back then still felt human. Now, when you hop on Facebook, you get to see a gajillion sponsored posts before you even get to see one of your friends' posts, and when you do see one of their posts, it's the curated, polished, pretentious kind. Everyone is pretending to be someone else. It gets so tiring.

The thing that got me the most is that everyone on the internet nowadays is trying to debate you. No one wants to have actual conversations. Even in the lower corners of the internet, like Reddit, everyone's an asshole and always tries to talk to you in one-liners, gotchas, and quirky little sarcastic lines. It's just so tiring.

I started a blog so I can have a corner of the internet where I can be myself. I can write about the things I feel, my thoughts, share photos, and share my stories.

I wanted to do this for a long time but just couldn't find the time. Now I actually sat down and sacrificed a couple of hours of my sleep to get this done.

So yeah..

Welcome to my world.
